Jokes!

What we've got right here is the new video for Speed Dial 7's "Jokes" (from the album 11, which you can get at Marathon of Dope). My homie big Yy takes the second verse. Pip Skid plays the scuzzy clown. Enjoy!

We're Effin' With a Bunch of Videos!

Settin' Up
Rod sets up the blueprint melêé. July 9, 2010.

Initially, I had this set up as a "Random Things" blog post with a ton of videos, but since Yy's new clip dropped today, I figured I should change it up. Last summer (Holy shit! Time flies), I was asked to participate in the filming of Yy's "Who's Effin' With Me" by mcenroe himself, and I was more than happy to be involved. It's no secret that Peanuts & Corn is one of my favorite labels, and that the roster are all homies of mine. This was a lot of fun to do, and it shows in the vid. Thanks, Rod! Check it out!

Go here for the rest of the rest of the shots I took that night. Yy's Tape It Back Together is out now, and you can get it at the P & C site, or on iTunes.

Here's a crapload of other videos I hope you'll enjoy!

Yy's "I Got That Treason"

The Demographic's "Reducer"

The Lytics' "Last Bit (Lovely Words)"

Wab Kinew's "Good Boy" (feat. Troy Westwood & Lorenzo)

Speed Dial 7's "Poker Faces II" (feat. Pip Skid & Nomad)

Pip Skid's "I Never Knew"

Pip Skid's "Tens of Dollars"

Pip Skid's "Tens of Dollars" (WFG/SNA version)

Nestor Wynrush's "Enida Watts"

I'm not sure if I've mentioned it before, but I know folks that make really good music. I'm in a sharing mood.

Skid Row Pimpin'

Pip & Ness

Pip (with the infamous Nestor Wynrush) performing "Cut Me Into A 1000 Pieces & Burn Them For 3 Weeks" at the West End Cultural Centre – March 13th, 2010. This shot is in the current issue of Stylus (thanks, Jenny!).

Y'all sick of me talking about Skid Row yet? I hope not. Because what I'm really saying is: YOU NEED THIS ALBUM. And now, you can get it within your filthy fingers via the good folks at Foultone. Purchase your physical copy via this link, and hit 'em off PayPal style.

What? You prefer zeros and ones? Well, it's on iTunes, too. US and Canada, fool. Get you some.

Still not convinced? What do I have to do? Free radio versions of three Pip tracks from foultone.com? You drive a hard bargain. All zipped up for your convenience.

This is some of the best shit Pip has ever recorded, and he'd be the first to tell you so. This is going to sound weird, but believe me, you will never hear self-hatred sound so good. Wanna know why? Because Pip's acidic, grimy rhymes and Kutdown's sublime beats are the finest tag team since the British Bulldogs. Kut outdid himself on the production tip, and he laces y'all with the shit that real heads dream of. A special shout-out goes to my man DJ Co-op for "You Got A Bad Name"; tap shoes have never sounded so dark. Good job, homie.
So, yeah, playa...enrich your life. Visit Skid Row.

Skid Row: Front and Back

Skid Row's Front and Rear
Y'all need to get your hands on this.

I'll just repeat what I've already said on Flickr:
Here are the front and rear panels of the new Pip Skid album (it's a Digipak!), Skid Row, which you must pick up on March 30th (or on the 13th, if you're in town).

This is the first commercially available recording I've been involved with design-wise, and hopefully not the last.

All of the illustrations, inside and out, were handled by my homie Eddie Ayoub (aka "Edge"), while the "Skid Row" lettering and album design were handled by me.
Eddie, if you remember, also handled the illustrations for The Pip Donahue Show and I Can't Be Stopped, both of which I also designed.

Haven't seen these in person yet, but all reports are quite positive from those who have.
You may not have noticed, but the front is actually an homage to Ice-T's classic Power album.

Just think, Alex Steinweiss invented the album cover, just to have it shrunk, with cartoon animals relieving themselves on the back. :D

GARBAGE (can)!

Pip Skid's Skid Row Release Party poster

If you're in town, you really shouldn't miss this. The almighty Pip Skid + a live band = one for the ages.

This poster was done rather quickly, as the promotional ball for the show (and the Skid Row album) had to get rolling, pronto-like. Yeah, there are things I'd change, but whatarey'gonnado? There's grit in excess on this, and I blame my Art Chantry influence. I've been a fan of his work since the mid-'90s, and as a result, his use of photocopied elements – and the resulting "fuzz" – has crept into my work. That toner grit is like distortion or feedback in a song, which is often icing on the cake for me.

This weekend, I'll be cobbling together the design for Skid Row – put out by the good folks at Foultone Records – which will be graced by the raw illustrations of Eddie Ayoub. You've seen his work on Pip's digital releases: The Pip Donahue Show and I Can't Be Stopped. I hope to due justice to his dopeness. Wish me luck!

Well, look at that!

A whole month without blog posts! And...no Japan pictures posted! Wow. WTF, I know.
I guess I didn't have anything to say. And my dwindling hard drive space provided a mental block once it came to editing the over 2000 photos I took on my vacation/honeymoon/trip of a lifetime.
I still haven't resolved that memory issue.
At any rate, I'll do my best to keep y'all better informed, that is if you find my tawdry lil' life interesting.
Hey...here's something I did last month:

Please, come to the show. It'll be fun.

Your Stomach and the Ballz In It

Dope li'l vid for Ghettosocks' "Ballz In Yo Stomach" from his I Can Make Your Dog Famous mixtape, featuring Timbuktu and my homie Pip Skid.

Look familiar? It is, 'cuz I made it, sucka. Recognize.

Damn...it's been a while since I heard a sex rhyme I like. Pip likes big girls as much as I do, if not more. And props to Jason Levangie for hookin' it up visually. The stealth use of porn footage? Thumbs up, sir.

Yo, this was fun to do. Homie should have a bunch with him for his Halifax show in a little bit. Yup.
