Ben Folds - Songs For Silverman
    Common - Be
    Blues Explosion - Damage
    Heavy Trash - self-titled
    Gruf - Hopeless
Mood Ruff - I Do My Own Stunts
So far, it's all really good, too!

And now, we wait (2)...

Just had my interview with the folks at the Manitoban. I think it went alright! I'll find out if I got the job on Wednesday or Thursday.

Illustration Friday: "Aquatic"

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Master of My Own Fate, 2005 • Bic Grip Roller, rubbing alcohol, graphite, and Photoshop®

Using Mozilla for this post has been a total pain in the ass.

Rant over.

Theinspiration behind this piece is a song by Toronto MC 4th Pyramid entitled "Aquatic". Neat, eh? Now, anyone that kno ws me can tell you that I'm not an advocate for illegal drug use, but over the years, there have been some rap songs I like that have done just that. The first two that come to mind are Pharcyde's "Pack the Pipe" and Cypress Hill's "Hits From the Bong". Come to think of it, you put Cypress'"Stoned Is the Way of the Walk" right up there in smokin' top 10. As far as partaking in the actual activity? Hell no.
For the sake of comparison, here's the original drawing before the digital messin' around:

And just to show you where I'm comin' from, here's the song:

My Nein poster

Having no solid computer home at the moment (with web access, that is) , getting this over to the Collective Cabaret booker has been sheer hell. Such problems shall be soon remedied, however. Thank God.

R.I.P. Frank Gorshin

I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Gorshin do his stand-up routine at Rumor's Comedy Club several years ago. He was in town to shoot Guy Maddin's Twilight of the Ice Nymphs. I believe I remember feeling a distinct chill in the room as he did his Peter Lorre impersonation. Being as old school as he was, most of the folks in his impersonation arsenal might have gone over the heads of some the younger or less-enlightened people in the audience, but his energy and charm won over everybody. It was like watching Rich Little, but way fuckin' cooler.

And now, we wait...

My 20" iMac has been ordered. Hopefully, I won't have to wait much longer than a week. I've outgrown my G3, and I have no online connection currently. Begging security to let me in to the old 3rd year lab sucks ass.

Random Thoughts: May 17th, 2005

  • I can't believe school's over. I miss the grind.
  • Last Friday, we had our final class at Eric Crone's house. Great times were had. I ate 7 burgers.
  • This week, the job search began. I dropped off a resume at the Manitoban to become their Graphics Editor. Wish me luck!
  • I'm currently without a regular computer "home". I feel like one of those guys that chills at friends' places until things get better. Right now, I'm the Learning Commons @ Red River with the rest of the freeloaders.
  • Tomorrow, I'll be ordering a 20" iMac. Feels good.
  • Currently, I'm listening to the Blues Explosion's Damage and Heavy Trash, the self-titled project by Jon Spencer and Matt Verta-Ray. In regards to Damage, I don't know what took me so long to buy this thing. I don't feel worthy of calling them my favorite band for getting sidetracked like that. I know they'll find it within their hearts to forgive me. I'm also diggin' Heavy Trash, probably even more than Damage. It's just stripped-down, 50s-style rock n' roll, with better lyrics (somewhat) than your average Jon Spencer project. I know I liked it a lot more than Exclaim! did. And the packaging (designed by Paul Pope and Rinzen) is fantastic.
  • About 15 minutes ago, a guy dislike was using the computer next to me. I can't wait to get my freakin' iMac.

Gigposters.com REVAMPED!

Check it out!
A whole new look n' feel, bolstered (is that the right word?) by a brand new forum (the other one was prone to hacks). It's pretty damn good!

Oh yeah, if you don't see anything new here for a while, it's because of the post-school transition I'm going through. Peace.

Al'z Post-School Wishlist

  1. A job. Something other than my Misericordia hustle. Preferably something design-oriented.
  2. An iPod, but first...
  3. ...a computer upgrade. Sorely needed
  4. The Art of Modern Rock. Damn right.
  5. A boatload of albums, including Gruf's Hopeless, Mike Doughty's Haughty Melodic, and Ben Folds' Songs For Silverman (plus the EPs he dropped a little while ago)
  6. My own f**kin' apartment. Gotta achieve #1 first.
  7. Flat files. Good storage, baby.
  8. A healthy mind and body. That's totally up to me.

I'm Gonna Say This Once...

...spamming my weblog is not fucking cool, alright? I'll visit you if I choose to. If I'm really curious as to who you are, and you're down with Blogger® or something else, I'll take a gander. Otherwise, fuck off.

Thank you.
