Sarah and I have been living in
this house for nearly three years, and I'm surprised it's taken me this long to talk about (and photograph) the old signs under my basement stairs.
I initially thought they were hand painted, but upon closer inspection, they looked like they were screen printed.
I should hit up
Christian Cassidy and see if he knows anything about these signs.
I've got a few more shots
here.

I know a little. As far as i know GWG has its roots in Central Winnipeg and Gas, which goes go back to the early days of the city (supplied gas for home and street lights, power for some streetcar service.
There were dozens of mergers in the first half of 1900s between mall power companies, streetcar companies etc. I'm not really sure of its pedigree during that time.
it's now owned by Hydro and they have a pretty good corporate history site. http://www.hydro.mb.ca/corporate/history/history_timeline.html
I see that there's a 7 digit telephone number so the sign is post 1960s.
Dude, thank you so much!
