Gruf Goin' South Jam Poster, 2002 • Graphite, Staedtler Pigment Liner and FreeHand®
I have severe doubts that I'll be able to come up with anything new for this week's topic (as I myself will be travelling), so here's something I did previously.
The Gruf Goin' South Jam was a little send-off for Winnipeg emcee Gruf the Druid as he was taking a little sojourn in Mexico. The show was great, and so was the turnout.
Check it out here with comments from some gigposters.com regulars.
He's neat with that little smile on his face. And my what energy to post so early.
ReplyDeleteI love it! So simple, but says it all.
ReplyDeleteI like how you placed the text. Nice job.

Thanks. The poster's actually three years old. I realized just how appropriate it is to this week's topic. I might actually take a stab at it with a fresh piece. As far as simplicity goes, that was definitely the goal with this poster. Most gigposters in Winnipeg are quite busy, and I wanted to do the opposite. It worked, because it really stood out amongst the others.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ruth! I know it's a free typeface, I just can't remember which one. The "Gruf Going South" stuff is hand-rendered Bodoni.
ReplyDeleteThat looks cool ! He could very easily be animated in a looping cycle gif form. :-D
ReplyDeleteReally nice inkwork! I like how you managed to convey so much about the event in that sketch.
ReplyDeleteReally nice work, Alan. So freash and clean. Happy travels to you!!
ReplyDeleteLooks good. I thing it's great you left so much space around your drawing, and I really like the playful text.
